Retreat & Cohort Plan

Retreats

Opening Virtual Retreat
January 5 & 6, 2023 1–4 p.m. eastern time, each day

All pastor cohorts will participate in the opening virtual retreat to learn about the program resources and engage in a process of discovery and planning for the six months they will spend as a group. Full participation by your group is expected. You will be introduced to the technology used for the program, design your group’s learning goals, choose your two preaching courses, and determine your group’s meeting schedule. Online sessions will include time with all pastor cohorts in the program plus ample time in your own cohort to connect and make plans for the coming weeks. Expect time for renewal as well as planning.

Closing On Campus Retreat
June 11 – 16, 2023
Location: Princeton Theological Seminary
Accommodations: The Erdman Center, 22 Library Place, Princeton, NJ
Retreat Fees: There are no additional fees for the retreat.
Travel Funds: Up to $400 is reimbursable for travel to closing retreat

The culmination of the program is a retreat on the Princeton Theological Seminary campus where we will knit together the learning experiences of the previous six months as well as encourage preachers to continue their learning journey. This year, our cohorts will enjoy their closing retreat in conjunction with the Seminary’s longstanding preaching event: The Engle Institute of Preaching. Expect to have time with your cohort as well as some large group sessions with all pastor cohorts and additional Engle participants. There will be time to enjoy the area, rest, and participate in table fellowship.

Your Cohort’s Plan

The program provides a structure and resources for your growth as a preacher. The structured components of the program, the retreats and courses, have firm dates when they will take place. Beyond those commitments, cohorts will develop a plan for their unstructured time together. In the past, cohorts have benefited from a self-led monthly virtual meeting. You might select a book to read together over the winter weeks. It’s up to you how you want to learn together. At the opening virtual retreat ideas and resources for developing your plan will be shared. Your time can be as structured or relaxed as your group decides.
